Chris Kirk Drives His Way to 5 Years of Sobriety

Chris Kirk

“Every good thing, every great thing, every awesome thing that I have in my life is 100% because I got sober,” said PGA Tour golfer Chris Kirk. And that includes a whole slew of awesome.

For instance, it includes a victory at the Korn Ferry Tour’s King and Bear Classic in the summer of 2020, which was just the beginning of his journey back to the PGA Tour. He then regained his Tour card the next year and has become a steady fixture on the tour once again, In fact, Kirk opened the 2024 season by beating out a field of real heavyweights down in Hawaii for The Sentry Tournament. He also won the Honda Classic (now Cognizant Classic) at the PGA National resort in 2023. And while Kirk “only” pocketed $108,000 for Korn Ferry, he nabbed $1.512 million for the Honda Classic and a career-best $3.6 million for The Sentry.
That’s not all. Kirk’s currently ranked No. 24 in the world after closing 2023 at No. 52. His 2-over par at the Masters tied him for 16th to give him his best ever finish at the tournament.

Not a bad stab at awesome.

Kirk will be the first to admit that his newfound positioning is due to his sobriety. In fact, he shared as much on the Instagram post.

“Five years ago I was completely hopeless and couldn’t see any way out,” said Kirk. “Thankfully I ran into a group of people that had once been hopeless just like me and showed me the way out.”

It wasn’t easy. In fact, it took a full commitment. Kirk completely stepped away from the game on May 7, 2019 after becoming sober just over a week prior.

“The work never stops but I live a life of peace and contentment that I never knew was possible.”

That peaceful and contented life is lived with his wife Tahnee and their three sons on 42 acres of farmland in Oconee County, Georgia, which Progressive Farmer deemed the third best rural county in the country back in ‘06.

As for the Tour, well, remember Kirk’s currently ranked No. 24 in the world after closing 2023 at No. 52. His 2-over par at the Masters tied him for 16th to give him his best ever finish at the tournament.

Best of all, he still has grace enough to anchor his post with “God bless you, have a great day.”

Healing Properties wholeheartedly congratulates Chris Kirk on his sober milestone, and we wish him many, many more. We also congratulate him on all the good that’s come from his sobriety; he deserves every bit of it! If you want some of what’s driving Chris Kirk, please give us a ring. We’ve been helping men get sober since 2002; we’d be honored to help you too.
